'once I was a field of blue flowers'
linen, a fabric of the past, present and future
A linen coat for all seasons.
A generous linen coat with long sleeves, pockets and buttons.
Layered dyeing of plants and an indigo dip create subtle and rich colours and patterns.
A generous size to fit small to large sizes.
Brilliant for everyday wear and travel, as it is light, maintains body temperature, folds up small and can be worn in formal and casual situations.
A comforting coat, kind to your skin and the environment and embellished with stories of it's past and present.
The life of this linen coat at Lud Valley
Op shop linen shirt transformed with french linen into a coat
Pre shrunk in a hot washImmersed in a weld vat to create yellow
Two different linens made different shades of yellow
Dipped in an indigo vat uniting weld shades into a light teal shade
Bathed for 4 days in a copper cauldron dancing with choisia leaves on our fire pitwashed by sun, rain, wind, fire, night and day into beautiful shades of soft green
But there were some darker sweat stains on the op shop linenSo it had continus leaves soaked in iron magic (rusty nails soaked for weeks in vinegar) andLovingly laid on the coat
Wrapped tightly around an iron rod and bound into a bundle with thick stringImmersed again into an iron pot and bathed for 2 days on the wood burning stove
Opened to reveal beautiful leaf prints and touches of iron on the soft green background Washed and air dried
